UF Apps

UF Apps is an excellent resource for accessing software that you do not own or cannot install on your own device.

Through UF Apps, numerous expensive computer programs are made available for free to UF students.

The spectrum of applications includes Photoshop (and other Adobe programs) and Grammarly. By utilizing these programs via the Citrix Receiver, you will have access to a set of native-like applications with complete functionality.

UFApps gives students at the University of Florida access to software programs from any device, including laptops, tablets, desktops, and cellphones, from any location and at any time.

The project began as a trial program sponsored by student technology fees and administered by UFIT for one year. UFApps has become a full-scale UFIT service for students and staff as a result of tremendously good feedback.

How to log into UF Apps

To have access to UF Apps on any device,

  • Please visit apps.ufl.edu.
  • Enter Your Gatorlink
  • Enter your password then.
  • To log in, click the “Log on” button.

When signing in for the first time, there will be a delay.

Access UF Apps from a mobile device

  • Download the Citrix Receiver from the app store on your device (Apple Store, Google Play).
  • Depending on the device type, launch the Citrix Receiver and select “Set up my enterprise apps” or “Add Account.”
  • In the “Address” input box, type “apps.ufl.edu.”
  • Fill out the username and password fields using your Gatorlink credentials.
  • If prompted for a domain, type “UFAD.”

How to access UF Apps from a PC

  • Visit citrix.com/products/receiver in your web browser.
  • Once there, click the “Download Receiver for Windows” button.
  • Initiate the Citrix Receiver installation.
  • If the “Confirm installation is complete” dialog box opens, click OK.
  • In some browsers, you may see a ribbon or window stating “This website wants to run the Citrix Receiver add-on.” If prompted, click “Allow” and select “Do not show me this warning again.”
  • After installing the Citrix Receiver, visit apps.ufl.edu.
  • For some web browsers, you may desire to add https://apps.ufl.edu/ to your list of trusted sites to avoid having to grant permission each time you run a UF Apps application. Consult the documentation for your browser for specific instructions.

Access UFApps from a Mac

To access UFApps from a Mac, the Citrix Workspace App must be installed. Follow the below steps:

  • Visit https://www.citrix.com/products/receiver.html with a web browser.
  • Once there, click the “Download for Mac” button.
  • Click “Citrix Workspace for Mac Download”
  • Install and launch the Citrix Workspace application.
  • Choose “Install Citrix Workspace” from the menu.
  • Click Continue to begin the installation, and then follow the on-screen directions to finish the installation.
  • Wait until the installation is finished.
  • After the installation is complete, visit apps.ufl.edu and log in!

How to download a file to your PC or Mac

Follow these steps if you have completed editing a file in UFApps and wish to copy it to your PC or Mac.

  • Launch the file with UF Apps.
  • Choose “Save As” from the application’s File menu.
  • In the left column, choose “C: Local Disk.” and double-click the user’s folder in the window.
  • Click your username twice.
  • Choose “My Documents” (PC) or “Documents” (Mac) and click “Save.”

How to access canvas from within UF Apps

Accessing Canvas files within UF Apps will significantly minimize the number of steps required to retrieve the relevant files, complete your work, and then upload it back to UF Canvas.

  • Launch the E-Learning application after you have logged into UFApps.
  • Enter your GatorLink credentials to access E-Learning.
  • You may now immediately transfer files from Canvas to your M Drive, OneDrive, etc.
  • Simply upload your completed work if you leave the Internet Explorer window for Canvas open. Otherwise, reboot the E-Learning app within UF Apps to regain access to Canvas.

UF apps M drive

The UF Apps M drive is a temporary storage location for files used with UFApps. Each UF Apps user is immediately granted 10 GB of storage space on the M drive.

Why should the M Drive be used?

Because it offers the most efficient speed while working with files in UFApps.

Suppose you are utilizing Excel in UFApps and wish to open a massive spreadsheet. If the file is stored on your local device, it must traverse the cloud to reach the UFApps servers, which might be a slow process.

However, the M: Drive is a component of UFApps itself. Therefore, the files you store there will load significantly faster, saving you precious time.

M drive quota

Each user has a 10 GB limit on their M: Drive. When your M: Drive quota is reached, you will no longer be able to create or change files. It may also result in application failure when launched.

UF takes every effort to alert you before your M: Drive runs out of storage space. If your M: Drive has less than 10 percent available capacity, a notification will be presented when you run a UF Apps application if you have less than 10 percent free space.

What to do if your M: Drive storage is low:

  • Launch the M: Drive software
  • Choose “StudentFileStorage (M:)” in the column on the left.
  • Identify any unneeded files that can be deleted.
  • Use Kumo to transfer completed projects/files to the University of Florida’s OneDrive for Business.

How to use Adobe products with UF Applications

Adobe products, including Photoshop, are discounted for UF students who purchase an annual subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.

Utilizing Adobe products on UFApps is advantageous for mobile students. The only requirement is an Internet connection! Adobe@UFApps ensures access on all devices from anywhere and at any time.

  • After acquiring an Adobe subscription via the On-the-Hub site, you will be able to log in to UFApps and access Adobe programs within 24 hours.
  • Provide that your working files are stored on the M: drive rather than your local hard drive to ensure a seamless experience.
  • This drastically increases the editing and creation performance of the applications.
  • Once you have completed working with the files, you can download the content to the hard disk of your local device.

UF apps not working?

There are a lot of ones and zeros flying around, therefore there is a chance that at least one individual will experience an issue.

You may occasionally encounter unexpected or new issues with UFApps, such as a new screen display or sudden slowness.

This may be due to the implementation of new programs or enhancements in response to student input, or to the exceptionally high utilization of UF Apps.
