UAB Blazernet is the student information portal for the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Students at UAB can log in to register, check their grades, and access UAB canvas, among other things.

What is a BlazerID?

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has implemented BlazerIDs as a campus-wide computer login identifier. It is somewhat analogous to the screenname/”buddy list”/username identification you may have used to access Google, Yahoo, or AOL services.

Why do I need a BlazerID?

Many network and computer resources at UAB, such as UAB Blazernet and Canvas, accept or require a BlazerID for login, and the ultimate goal is for your BlazerID to act as the sole identification that grants you secure access to all of UAB’s online information services and portals.

What services require a BlazerID?

The majority of significant administrative and academic online services at UAB now need a BlazerID. Some examples

  • UAB BlazerNET portal login
  • Connection to the ResNet wired network in the residence halls
  • Most departmental computer labs
  • Class mailing lists and crucial e-mail information from your department, school, and designated UAB BlazerNET support locations

What is the relationship between my BlazerID and my email address?

The BlazerID is the piece of your address that contains your username. You have the option of specifying a mailbox or creating a UAB e-mail account to receive your mail when you register your BlazerID.

Then on, any mail sent to your address will be automatically redirected to the specified mailbox. You can modify this forwarding at any time using the Change E-mail Preferences page on BlazerID Central,

How do I acquire a BlazerID?

To obtain a BlazerID, you must be a current, former, or upcoming UAB employee or student (students who last attended before 1982 may not be in the computer records). There are no exceptions to this rule: if you are not (or have never been) linked with UAB as an employee or student, you cannot obtain a BlazerID.

If you attempt to register for a BlazerID and the system states that it cannot locate you in our database, then the necessary documentation may not yet have been processed to add you to the system; please try again in a day or two. Click the Need Help? link on the left to get assistance if the issue persists.

Before attempting to register or activate a BlazerID, you must take a minute to carefully examine your BlazerID and password selections.

How do I change my BlazerID? Can I make a new one?

Once established, your BlazerID cannot be altered. However, you can substitute your BlazerID with the Mail Only Alias option.

To setup a mail alias,

  • Visit the online phonebook at
  • Select the Modify Information button.
  • This will take you to the login page. Your BlazerID and password are required.
  • After logging in, a screen with your information will appear. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the Mail-only aliases section. Click the Edit/Add link.
  • Enter a new alias in the box that appears below and click Change! Aliases may contain up to 16 characters or numbers, including capitalization. Aliases are exclusively used for mail delivery. Accessing campus-wide systems (e.g., Oracle, UAB BlazerNET, Banner, Blackboard, etc.) will still require the use of your BlazerID.
  • After entering your new mail alias, you must choose the show option next to your new alias and click Change! again. To review your changes, click the View Entry button at the top of the page.
    Your email alias has been created. Remember to continue using your BlazerID, not your mail-only alias, to access campus-wide systems.

How to access uab canvas

The University of Alabama in Birmingham use the learning management system (LMS) UAB Canvas. It allows UAB students and professors to develop, organize, and implement course content, assignments, quizzes, conversations, and more.
