Testudo is a website that enables students at the University of Maryland (UMD) to register for classes, get unofficial transcripts, check grades, apply for graduation, and perform a variety of other tasks. It also gives alumni and parents with limited access.

Testudo is an interactive web site that enables current students to register for courses and complete academic record transactions. Registration (Add/Drop Courses), Degree Audit (uAchieve), Graduation Application & Diploma Status, Transcript/Enrollment Certification Request, Unofficial Transcript, and Waitlist Check-In are available on Testudo.

How to access Testudo

The majority of Testudo services require a University Directory ID and password. GPA Calculator, Schedule of Classes, and Venus- Schedule Builder do not require a login.

  • Go to Testudo at testudo.umd.edu.
  • Choose the required service.
  • Sign in with your Directory ID and password when prompted.

How to update your student contact information in testudo

There are two official email systems for the University of Maryland: UMD Gmail and UMD TERPmail. UMD Gmail is the email platform that staff should utilize (including student employees).

This allows the University to foster secure communication and collaboration, ensure business continuity, and maintain efficient data management. TERPmail is the email platform for undergraduate students.

Changing your email address within the system could take up to 30 minutes. Once your email account has been set to TERPmail, it cannot be changed.

  • In a web browser, access Testudo.
  • Click Change Email/Address. You might be required to provide your Directory ID and password. You may also be required to use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
  • To make changes to your contact information, click Edit.
  • Choose your profile’s access level from one of the two options below:
    • Contact information is not provided in the University’s directory.
    • The University directory includes public contact information.
    • Whether you choose to keep your contact information private or make it public, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) governs the sharing of contact information.
  • Edit your Email. Using one of the following options, verify that the email address is set to a University email system.
  • Undergraduate students–DirectoryID@terpmail.umd.edu is your TERPmail address. If you have not yet activated your TERPmail account, click the blue icon labeled Get TERPmail to change your current email. Consult Activating a TERPmail Account.
  • Enter your UMD Gmail address: DirectoryID@umd.edu.
  • Once it is set to a University email system (@umd.edu or @terpmail.umd.edu), it cannot be modified.
  • Click Update to save modifications. Your contact information will be updated within two hours after you have completed this process.
  • It is advised that you set up forwarding in your TERPmail account if you want your mail to be sent to another address.

Registration processes

Testudo provides registration services, including Drop/Add, to the majority of students. Important registration information and an overview of the registration procedure can be found in steps 1 through 6 below.

  • Check Appointment and Registration Status: Navigate to Testudo and click Appointment and Registration Status to determine whether you have any advisory, academic, or financial blocks. Before registering, all obstacles must be removed.
  • Make an Advising Appointment and Clear All Registration Blocks: Discussing academic plans/planning is strongly advised for all students and required for some.
  • Check Course Availability: Review the Class Schedule VENUS is a web-based application that can help you create a class schedule.
  • Obtain Special Permissions: Some courses have unique criteria, pre-requisites, or require special permission. Before registering, special authorizations must be obtained. Colleges and departments can electronically provide specific permissions; nevertheless, you must still visit Testudo to register for the course.   • Register at your scheduled appointment time or any time thereafter.
    • Online:
      • Go to Testudo.
      • Select Drop/Add Registrations.
      • The online registration hours are 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 5:00 p.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday.
    • In-person:
      • Complete the registration request form at the Mitchell Building’s first-floor Office of the Registrar Student Services Counter.
    • Fill out the registration request form and send it to registrar-help@umd.edu via email.
    • Please note that late enrollment begins on the first day of classes. Any student who registers for the semester after this date will be charged a $20 late registration fee.
    • All course enrollments must be processed prior to the conclusion of the Schedule Adjustment period (first ten days of classes).
    • Students interested in adding and dropping non-standard courses (those scheduled to begin or end outside the standard semester/term dates) should contact the Office of the Registrar at registrar-help@umd.edu for more information.
  • After You Register … Don’t Forget: Come to Testudo to:
    • View your agenda (includes book list)
    • Confirm your final examination schedule.
    • Check in on your hold/waitlist file.
    • One business day after registration, view your student account and make payment arrangements.
    • Obtain a valid photo ID.

How do I obtain a transcript?

  • Visit Testudo.
  • Click Transcript Request & Status. You may need to enter your Directory ID and password to log in.
  • To request a fresh transcript, click New Request.
  • Complete the requested transcript form.

How do I request an unofficial transcript?

  • Visit Testudo.
  • Select Unofficial transcript by clicking the link. You may need to enter your Directory ID and password to log in.
  • You may view and print your unofficial transcript.

What is TERPware?

TERPware is a software distribution program for students, teachers, and employees at the University of Maryland (UMD).

TERPware provides a vast selection of free software packages, including site-licensed Adobe, Microsoft, and other vendor goods. Included in software packages are operating system applications, office applications, and antivirus software.

Through agreements with suppliers, the university pays for the product licensing, allowing students, teachers, and staff to utilize the TERPware packages at no cost.

Regular updates to the TERPware server ensure that patches and upgrades for UMD-supported software are always accessible.

Download and install TERPware software

To download applications from TERPware, you must have a valid UMD Directory ID and password along with a web browser that is suitable.

Visit www.terpware.umd.edu. TERPware should automatically determine your platform (Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux) and display the appropriate software in the mainframe and category listing on the left.

If the program for your operating system is not displayed, click the button corresponding to your operating system at the top of the left navigation column.

  • To start downloading the desired software, navigate to the software’s location.
  • Select Sign In, then enter your UMD Directory ID and password.
  • This will grant you access to product keys and downloads.
  • Once you have logged in, click Download.
  • Follow all on-screen instructions.
