Before the Department of State may issue a visa, all prospective F and M students must pay the I-901 Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) Fee.  WHO PAYS THE I-901 SEVIS FEE

  • All potential F and M students from countries where a visa is required to enter the United States.
  • All future F and M students from visa-exempt nations (before seeking admission at a U.S. port of entry).
  • Any nonimmigrant in the United States wishing to shift to F-1 or M-1 status (before applying for a change of nonimmigrant status).
  • When a F or M student requesting for reinstatement of student status due to a status violation has been out of status for more than five months, the I-901 SEVIS fee must be paid (payment should be made prior to submission of the application to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services).
  • An F or M student who has been absent from the United States for more than five months and seeks to re-enter for additional study in the same academic program (before re-entry into the United States).
    • There is an exception for students who have been working toward the completion of a course of study at a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-approved institution while participating in authorized foreign study. If you believe this relates to you, contact your school’s designated school official (DSO).

A dependent of an F-1, M-1 or J-1 student who will be applying for an F-2, M-2 or J-2 visa does not have to pay an I-901 SEVIS Fee.

WHAT INFORMATION YOU NEED TO PAY THE FORM I-901 SEVIS FEE

To pay the I-901 SEVIS fee, all prospective F and M students must supply the following:

  • Name, mailing address, birth date, and email address.
  • Birthplace and nation of citizenship.
  • Form I-20, “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status,” School Code.
  • The SEVIS Identification Number that appears on Form I-20.

HOW TO PAY THE I-901 SEVIS FEE

  • A prospective F or M student from Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, or Gambia must pay with a money order, Western Union Quick Pay, or certified check made on a U.S. bank. On FMJfee.com, all other prospective F or M students also have the opportunity to pay with a credit card.
  • SEVP accepts third party payments, which means that someone else can pay your I-901 SEVIS Fee using the same payment method. Third party payers cannot pay the charge by credit card on behalf of students who cannot pay the fee by credit card.
  • The Western Union Quick Pay/Quick Collect form instructions can be found on the SEVP website.
  • On the SEVP website, you can access the PDF version of SEVIS Form I-901. According to the instructions on the form, please print and mail your paper SEVIS Form I-901 along with a check or money order.
  • Call the SEVP Response Center at 703-603-3400 for specific instructions or assistance with the I-901 SEVIS Fee payment process.

PRINT A RECEIPT

At your visa interview, you must provide proof of payment for the I-901 SEVIS Fee in order to obtain your student visa.

  • The printed confirmation will act as evidence of I-901 SEVIS Fee payment.
  • After submitting your I-901 payment via FMJfee.com, you can print a receipt of payment.
  • If you have spotted misspellings on your I-901 SEVIS Fee receipt, wish to attend a different school, or wish to transfer your payment to a new SEVIS record, you must first send a comprehensive request to FMJfee.sevis@ice.dhs.gov.

OTHER INFORMATION

Due to the large volume of fee transfer and change requests, please e-mail your request at least two weeks in advance of your visa interview to ensure sufficient time to make the necessary adjustments. You can see the status of your revision and print your I-901 SEVIS Fee receipt by logging into FMJfee.com. If the requested adjustments are not completed within two weeks, please call the SEVP Response Center at 703-603-3400.

  • Extend your student status.
  • Transfer to another school.
  • Receive permission to participate in optional practical training.
