Oakland Community College uses OCC D2L as its Learning Management System to deliver online and hybrid courses, as well as materials and activities for select face-to-face courses.

You may occasionally hear the D2L system at OCC referred to as Brightspace by D2L.

Approximately 75% of all courses given each semester have a corresponding D2L course site. Check with your instructor if you are uncertain whether D2L is being used in your course.

How to set up your profile

Adding an image to your profile is a great way to add a personal touch. This image will appear at the top of the Oakland OCC D2L My Home page and various D2L sections, including Discussions and the Classlist.

Once you upload an image to your profile, it will appear in all of your D2L courses.

This procedure only has to be completed once. The majority of instructors will prefer that you use a photo of yourself rather than an icon. Head and shoulder pictures typically do the best.

Maintain a classroom setting characterized by mutual respect at all times. Images considered unsuitable are subject to removal.

Adding your profile picture

  • After logging into D2L, pick your name in the upper-right corner, followed by Profile from the drop-down menu.
  • Choose the Change Image button.
  • Select the Upload button and select the desired image.
  • Select the plus button.
  • Select the Save and Close option at the bottom of the screen if you are satisfied with the shown image; otherwise, return to Step 2 to upload a new image.

Deleting your profile picture

After logging into D2L, pick your name in the upper-right corner, followed by Profile from the drop-down menu.

  • Select the Remove Picture (trash can icon) button located adjacent to Change Picture.
  • Choose Remove to remove the image, and Cancel to return to the previous screen.

How to use occ d2l to check your grades

The Grades tool allows you to view individual grades as well as instructor comments.

  • After entering your course, select Grades from the navigation menu.
Locate a grade item (e.g., Paper 1), then locate the information displayed in the Points column (e.g., 10/10 point value scored) and Grade column that has been released by your instructor for your grade (e.g. 100 percent , or letter grade received). If your instructor employs a weighted grading system, your grade will appear in the Weight Achieved column rather than the Points column. The information you see on each grade item depends on what your instructor chooses to make available.
  • To read teacher feedback, navigate to the Grade Item (e.g., Paper 1) and view the information in the Comments and Assessments column (e.g., Individual Feedback: Good Job Etta!, Overall Response: There are possible bonus points for the paper. You may get a maximum of 12 points.

Viewing your final grade for the course

Your instructor may display the final grade (Final Calculated Grade) at the top of the Grades page (e.g., Points 108/110, Grade 98.2 percent). Click the calculator symbol to view a list of components that comprise the final grade. Important! Two days after the completion of the semester, your teacher will upload your official final grade to your MyOCC profile.

Examine the list of grade elements (e.g. Paper 1, Paper 2) included in the final grade presented in the pop-up Final Grade Calculation Formula and the Points Obtained column (e.g. Written Assignments 19/22).

If your instructor utilizes a weighted grade book, you will locate your grades in the Weight Achieved Column instead of the Points Achieved column.
