CUNYfirst is the City University of New York’s information, registration, and administration system for students (CUNY).

It represents City University of New York Fully Integrated Resources and Services Tool.

The university student portal is a CUNY-wide, web-based system that students from Hunter, queens college, Baruch, BMCC, Lehman College, john jay, CUNY city tech, and LaGuardia Community College use to register for courses, pay bills, manage personal information, and apply for graduation, among other things.

To access the CUNY login portal for the first time, you must claim your accounts in order to have access to CUNY’s first self-service system for course registration, grade checking, degree audit, and transcripts,CUNY Blackboard etc.

How to claim your CUNYfirst account

Following the steps outlined below, applicants or new users can claim their accounts.

  • Visit the CUNYfirst Portal Sign-In page.
  • On the Login screen, click the “New User” button.
  • On the Account Activation page, input the information listed below:
    • First and Last Name exactly as they appear on your application
    • Date of Birth in the format mm/dd/yyyy (for example, 01/02/1999).
    • In the ‘SS#’ field, enter the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
    • Click the box next to “I’m not a robot” and then follow the CAPTCHA text instructions.
  • Confirm your email address or input a new one.
  • Receive an email with a unique confirmation link for account activation (valid for two hours).
  • Click to confirm and set your password for your email address.
  • Set your password retrieval questions.

Accessing the cuny initial portal;

  • Please go to home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu.
  • Enter your username for cuny.
  • Enter your password then.
  • Simply click “Login” to access your portal.
  • Remember to sign out of your account.

Your CUNYfirst username is either your CUNY ID or EMPLID. It appears at the top of the dashboard. Typically, your CUNYfirst username appears as ‘firstname.lastnameXX@login.cuny.edu’

On the website’s Look Up page, you may also look up your CUNYfirst ID (EMPLID) and Live Student Email Username.

You can modify your preferred email address through the CUNYfirst site. To accomplish this, pick My Info from the menu on the left. Select “Change” next to Personal Email, then edit and save. Select “Change in CUNYfirst” to modify your phone number and/or mailing address.

Log out of the system when finished, and for security concerns, only input your CUNY Login password on CUNY Login webpages (ssologin.cuny.edu and login.cuny.edu).

How to change your username on CUNYfirst portal

Legal proof is required for every name change at CUNY. You must include two (2) forms of relevant paperwork.

Either a marriage certificate, passport, birth certificate, social security card, divorce decree, or court order must be presented as proof of identity.

The second type of required paperwork must be a Photo ID.

Prior to changing your chosen name on CUNY,

  • Navigate to the CUNY student center login page.
  • Sign in with your credentials.
  • Visit the Student Center.
  • Scroll to Personal Information and then click “Names” on the left.
  • You should be able to add a name and designate it as your preferred name on that page.

How to reset your CUNY first password

Have you lost your password? Resetting a Cunyfirst password is an easy operation.

  • Navigate to the login page for the CUNYFirst portal.
  • Click “Forgot Password” beneath the password boxes.
  • Enter your CUNY First username OR EMPLID, and then click “Continue.”
  • After answering the two security questions, click “Continue.” These responses are case-insensitive.
  • Enter a new password and then click “Continue.”
  • Enter a new password and then click “Continue.” The following characteristics apply to passwords:
    • between 8 and 13 characters in length
    • Minimum of one uppercase and one lowercase letter required
    • Must contain a minimum of one number
    • NOT one of your last four generated passwords
  • After resetting your password, the confirmation screen will display your CUNY First username and EMPLID.
  • In addition, a confirmation email will be sent to your account management email address.

Grades check on CUNYfirst student center

Log in to the CUNY first portal and select HR/Campus Solutions to view your grades or CUNY transcript. Select Self Service followed by Student Center. Select Transcript: View Unofficial from the Other Academic drop-down menu in the Academics section, then click the Go button.

Documents upload to CUNYfirst portal

To upload files to Cuny, you must first log into your Cuny account. Select Campus Solutions > Self Service > Document Upload thereafter. Your name and eight-digit CUNYfirst ID are shown on the Document Upload page. On the Document Upload page, a drop-down menu for Document Type is added. Document uploading through CUNY works best on a PC, not a mobile device.

Acceptance of financial aid on CUNY first

Sign in to the Cuny portal and choose HR/Campus Solutions from the menu on the left. Follow Self-Service with the Student Center link. In the Finances section, click the option labeled Accept/Reject Awards.

Commitment deposit payment on CUNY first

To make your deposit, Sign in to the account. Proceed to the “Student Center” To pay your deposit with a credit or debit card, click the link.
